In 2016, ATAC Group with many of its partners was able to send 2 x 40FT containers to Vanimo full of food clothing and building materials. These containers would provide enough food and material for the whole community in Vanimo for over 4 years.  The Lujan Home protects the girls, allowing them to grow in a safe environment. Seeking to recognize the dignity of all human life, we opened the Lujan Home for Girls for two main reasons: 

 

1. Opportunity for education is often not an option for girls from poor families. While many parents want their children to be educated, they are unable because of tuition costs and difficulties with transportation on the island. The home allows the parents not only to stay in close contact with their daughters but also to send them to school.

 

2. To save the girls from early marriage and protect them from domestic violence. Tribal violence in Vanimo continues to be a cause of fear among the people, but in the home, the girls from various rival tribes live together and have become enduring friends. 

 

We know that the role of women is crucial, especially here in Papua New Guinea: she is responsible for transmitting values and faith, as well as providing for everything else.
